Commenting Pays Off

Hey, the Single Guy is getting around. I'm featured over at my good friends' blog, House of Annie. I first started reading the blog, by the husband-and-wife team Nate and Annie, a few years ago. They lived in San Jose at the time and I was always intrigued to learn about Annie's recipes and Nate's attempts to bring some local Hawaiian food to the house. (Both Nate and I are from Hawaii so I gravitate to any blogs by kama'ainas.)

Now they live in Kuching in Malaysia where Annie's from. And I still check out their blog because now I learn so much about Malaysian cuisine, made the homestyle way by Annie. Nate contacted me awhile back and told me I was one of the blog's top commenters (I guess I'm really chatty) so he wanted to feature me. So here's the link to the interview of moi.

As bloggers, commenting is a nice way to engage one another in the food blogging world. Sometimes it can feel like you're just talking to yourself when blogging, until you start hearing from people about what they think as they comment on your posts. I don't usually make a big deal about drumming up comments on my blog, but I do have to say I get jealous when I visit other blogs and they get 25-plus comments on a post. I know I have more than 25 visitors a day, so I got to have more comments than that, right?

Anywho, I know commenting is a personal thing. I like to comment on blogs that I feel connected with, and not just do it because I feel I need to. With Nate and Annie's blog, I have no problem thinking of something to say about their most fascinating and fun posts. Check them out and you'll probably see me there! :)

Ben -

I admit, I get jealous too when I see other blogs with 25+ comments per post. But you get what you give - if you want to receive comments, you've got to give them out as well, and sometimes in greater numbers than you get. Otherwise, you really are talking to yourself.

Thanks for the kind words about (and on) our site! Really great to get to know you.

Nate

I just found your blog this past spring when I was looking up a restaurant in Hawaii. Since then, been reading it; and I love the reviews; espeically the two food fairs you just did. I don't comment because, well, didn't think you like them.

And once I figure out how to put a "name" to my comment; I'll comment more often.

Thanks for sharing...

Yours is one of the very first blogs I ever attempted to make a recipe from (remember sticky wings?). I started my obsession with Red Mango because of you. I've tried restaurants because of you. I have a feeling there are a lot more like me out there, they just don't post about it!

Anonymous, thanks for coming out of the bushes! I hope to see you with a name attached soon! :)

Mrs. L, haven't heard from you for awhile! Glad to see you're still around!

Plus, I'm sure you have a lot of lurkers. I only comment once in a while, but I read your blog daily.
