I often skip dessert, and the meal was pretty filling. I do want to note that the restaurant was nice enough to give us a muffin as a parting gift, nice touch.

Thanks David!

What I'm surprised about is how someone thinks this review is a slam against the restaurant. I was just pointing out areas where I thought it fell flat. I still think overall the food was good, which is why I gave a final rating of 3 stars. In my system, 3 stars means the restaurant is "perfect for foodies (and others)" so it means the food is adventurous and interesting enough to keep foodies talking (which apparently this review did too). And I never said I wasn't going back, in fact I said eVe is a good value prix fixe spot.Single Guy Benhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02496236420566420946noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-34927862.post-28023661374672194432010-03-18T12:52:00.440-07:002010-03-18T12:52:00.440-07:00OK, whoever you are, it sounds as if you're so...OK, whoever you are, it sounds as if you're somehow tied to the restaurant. And you're sure not subtle about it. Also seems that you're more up in arms because the reviewer didn't fawn over the meal. Well, I was there at the meal in question and it was good, not great, though I'd probably go back. You claim that a review like this is a problem with the Internet nowadays. The real problem is anonymous mean-spiritedness. If you don't like this blog, then there's an easy solution for you. Just move on. -- David

BTW, the location is definitely not an ugly part of Berkeley, so you only do your restaurateur friends a disservice.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-34927862.post-34954950730811277102010-03-18T00:34:52.510-07:002010-03-18T00:34:52.510-07:00Its really too bad that this is such a shoddy revi...Its really too bad that this is such a shoddy review (on the part of the reviewer not the resto). This is the problem with the internet nowadays, it gives even the most inexperienced home "chef" blogger an avenue to knock down someone that has gone out on a limb to bring some vitality to an ugly part of Berkeley. Its clear that this kind of food is well outside of your comfort zone. For me its refreshing that its not the same old California/French cuisine seen at nearly every restaurant in the Bay Area.

One thing (among others) you forgot to point out is that $11 is for an additional course, not necessarily dessert, it can be any course on the menu. $36 is a amazing deal for a 3 course meal of this caliber whether it ends in dessert or not. Commis is $59 just to sit down. In a time where people are watching their expenses but still appreciating the finer things in life this restaurant is truly a gem. Its just too bad it was way over your head. We applaud Chris and Veronica for having the fortitude to do what they have done in this recession in our neighborhood, bravo!

Regardless of the review or the comments eVe is not to missed!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-34927862.post-19873122485500695202010-03-17T20:07:45.113-07:002010-03-17T20:07:45.113-07:00$11 for dessert? too crazy expensive for Berkeley!...$11 for dessert? too crazy expensive for Berkeley! I guess my mind didn't connect the taro to the sauce because it didn't taste like taro at all. Tasted mostly like mustard, which is why I described it like that.
